Princess of Wales Hospital hit by eight new claims of neglect against its patients
In 2014, the Princess of Wales Hospital came under investigation following allegations of neglect against some of its nursing staff. In November 2014, following an investigation, Lauro Bertulano, 45, and Natalie Jones, 40, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court to neglecting patients. Both nurses failed to check patients’ blood glucose and falsified notes. A further three nurses were also charged with neglect. In total 15 nurses at the Princess of Wales Hospital were put under investigation.
Police have now confirmed that they are looking into 8 further cases involving patients at Princess of Wales Hospital. In a statement, South Wales Police said “…We are currently investigating eight complaints of inadequate care of patients…We are still in the process of establishing if there is any evidence of criminality.”
Aberawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, which runs Princess of Wales Hospital said, “…eight patients or their relatives have contacted South Wales police with historic concerns….we understand …six have now been closed…”
