Important update

Information for former clients of Challinors about their Wills, Powers of Attorney and other deeds

If you instructed Challinors or one of its related practices (see below) in relation to your Will or Power of Attorney these pages will help you to identify the location of your documents and any steps that you should now take.

Your Will

Challinors went into administration in August 2013 and into liquidation on 16 January 2015. As a result of the arrangements reached with the administrator and with the approval of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, we took possession of the original Wills that were being held by Challinors.

We are holding these Wills at no cost to the former clients of Challinors, so you can be assured that your Will is safe and that no fee is payable for this service.

If your Will appointed Challinors, or one of its solicitors, as executors we strongly recommend that you take immediate steps to replace them as the appointment will be invalid. We can help you with this. Please visit our appointed Challinors page for more information.

If you decide that you do not want us to retain your Will or it is no longer valid because you have made a new Will we will need your instructions to release the Will to you, together with evidence of your identity. Please complete our online form and provide identification and authority documents.

If your loved one has passed away and you are an executor or beneficiary of their estate please complete our online form and provide identification and authority documents so that we can send the Will to the address that you provide.

Wills are held securely offsite and will take approximately 7 to 10 working days to retrieve and send to the address that you provide from the date that we receive full information and identification documents from you.

We will acknowledge your request within 2 working days and confirm where any further information is needed and provide you with contact details of the team member dealing with your request.

Powers of Attorney, title deeds or other deeds

We have only taken custody of the Wills that Challinors were holding for their clients. Unfortunately we do not hold any title deeds, Powers of Attorney or other documents. These have been acquired by Simpsons Solicitors. If you also had other deeds (such as title deeds for your house) with Challinors you will need to contact Simpson Solicitors. Their contact number is 01332 424 511 and you will need to ask to speak to the client contact centre.

Any other enquiries

The quickest way to get your documents is to fill out the forms on the links above. You can do this even if you are not sure whether we are holding documents for you.

Alternatively you can email us on enquiries@clarkewillmott.com. Please note that we can not provide any information over the telephone or by email without first carrying out identity checks and seeking the necessary authorities. It is important that you include full contact details, names and addresses and confirm what documents you think we should now have for you, so that we can deal with your enquiry promptly.
