Clarke Willmott advises on the high-profile dispute between the BBC and Top Gear driver the Stig.
Some say that he doesn’t like ducks, others say that he is a Bristol-based 36 year old racing driver and some even say that Clarke Willmott are his lawyers. We can now reveal that all these facts are true!
Solicitor Advocate Owen Williams has successfully acted on behalf of the Stig in a widely reported dispute with the BBC over his right to publish his autobiography. The BBC claimed that the book would breach confidentiality agreements, but after three days in the High Court the Stig (or Ben Collins as we can now reveal) and his publisher, HarperCollins, were successful in having the BBC injunction application dismissed.
James Earl, Senior Associate in the Clarke Willmott Sport team, has a long standing professional relationship with Collins, a former stuntman and Formula Three driver, and acted in relation to negotiation of the original publishing contract with HarperColllins.
The autobiography, entitled ‘The Man in the White Suit’ will be published on 16 September 2010.
