Clarke Willmott advises on sale of Challenge Packaging to Logson Group

Clarke Willmott has advised on the sale of East Sussex-based packaging manufacturer, Challenge Packaging Ltd. to Logson Group.

Clarke Willmott’s Southampton team acted for the shareholders on behalf of Challenge Packaging, which operates from a 10,000 sq m site near Hailsham. The business includes a design lab, a customer experience centre, full in-house production capability, 3,000-plus pallet storage an HGV fleet of over ten trucks.

Established in 1987, Challenge Packaging Ltd. Is a manufacturer of corrugated packaging and offers a full range of packaging materials through its market-leading website

Headquartered in Coalville, Leicestershire, Logson Group employs around 1,300 people and has an annual turnover of more than £400 million.

Richard Swain, a partner in Clarke Willmott’s corporate team, who led on the deal along with corporate team associate Hollie Blackwood Fisher and Kristian Johnson, a senior associate in the commercial property team, said the acquisition boosts Logson Group’s market position.

He said that by adding Challenge Packaging in the South East it now has full UK coverage through its network of strategically placed manufacturing sites.

“We are thrilled to have been part of this transaction and to see the deal come to fruition. Joining with Logson will allow Challenge Packaging to expand and evolve its market leading capabilities and drive customer service to new levels,” he said.

“Clarke Willmott worked closely with the shareholders throughout the process and the deal will see Challenge Packaging’s senior management team continuing to lead the company as a stand-alone business within Logson Group.”

Simon Allen, chairman of Challenge Packaging, commented: “Having owned Challenge and worked with many of the existing staff for over 20 years, it was critical that our legal partners structure a deal that ensured continuity for our workforce whilst assisting in fulfilling the best deal for the shareholders.

Richard and his team successfully delivered our objectives by ensuring their advice was comprehensive, accurate but most importantly communicated in a simple and understandable way. It was a pleasure working with them.
