Action for Brain Injury Week 2024

Supporting survivors: Clarke Willmott marks Action for Brain Injury Week

National law firm Clarke Willmott LLP is supporting this month’s Action For Brain Injury Week to raise awareness of the often-invisible challenges of brain injuries.

The campaign, led by brain injury charity Headway, runs from 19th – 25th May and is entitled ‘On a Good Day’. It will highlight the frequently hidden challenges, fluctuating and unpredictable nature of an acquired brain injury (ABI).

Headway was founded in 1979 by a group of concerned individuals – including families of brain injury survivors, medical professionals, and lawyers – who recognised a serious lack of support for people living with the long-term effects of brain injury.

“Action for Brain Injury Week is a vital reminder of how uncertain and life-altering an acquired brain injury can be,” says Lee Hart, a partner and personal injury team manager at Clarke Willmott, who is also a trustee of Headway Somerset and an accredited senior litigator and brain injury specialist within the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

“Brain injuries are often misunderstood because their effects can be hidden and unpredictable – yet they can be profoundly life changing.

“On a Good Day will highlight the gap between capabilities on a good day versus a bad day and help educate the public about the physical, cognitive, and emotional effects of brain injury.”

As specialists in serious injuries, Clarke Willmott’s lawyers work closely with clients and families whose lives have been turned upside down by acquired brain injuries. The firm is a long-term partner of Headway.

“At Clarke Willmott, we urge greater understanding and support for those affected,” said partner Philip Edwards, another of Clarke Willmott’s brain injury claims experts, who is accredited brain injury specialist with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

“The effects go far beyond the physical – survivors often face fatigue, memory loss, mood changes and difficulties with communication and cognition that fluctuate day by day.

“The road to recovery often requires not just medical care, but access to long-term rehabilitation and appropriate compensation to help individuals rebuild their lives.”
