It is hard to know where the debate on care provision will end up. Everyone knows something needs to be done but there seems to be little political consensus on how it will be achieved.
All we can hope for is that the current system will be improved.
If you are a carer or relation looking after a family member, understanding who is responsible for what is almost impossible to decipher. Likewise, who has to pay? Who doesn’t?
There is meant to be a joined up approach between social services, the doctors and other “support” agencies. Unfortunately we seem to have created a maze of guidance and paperwork leaving everyone involved bewildered and often angry. The result is that people entitled to assistance, such as NHS Continuing Care, just do not know how or when to apply.
Whatever changes are implemented, simplification needs to be at the heart of the change.
