Clare helps separating couples reach beneficial and family-focused outcomes with clarity, compassion and respect.
As a family law specialist, Clare understands that relationship breakdown is one of the most challenging and emotional times in a person’s life. The way in which separation and divorce is dealt with can have a significant impact on not only the individual but also the children of the family. Clare has built her practice with a commitment to helping her clients resolve their issues in a constructive and conciliatory way. In doing so, she will always have regard to the long-term hopes and aspirations for the family, whilst of course protecting her client’s interest.
As a result of her years of dedication to actively promoting and practicing non-court solutions, she has built a well-respected reputation in the South West. Clare’s peers know that, when working with her, the matter will be dealt with pragmatism and sensitivity. The vast majority of Clare’s work will settle without the need to go to court.
As an experienced collaborative lawyer, she will support her clients through the collaborative process, in round table meetings, arbitration, private FDRs or by the more traditional route of constructive negotiation.
In addition, Clare specialises in advising couples in the ‘One Couple One Lawyer’ approach which is an innovative way of helping those who wish to separate amicably, do so together with the assistance of just one lawyer acting for both. This has multiple benefits, including quicker resolutions and reduced conflict. It is the ideal process for those couples who are not intent on winning a war but are themselves striving for mutually beneficial results that work for the family.
Where it is appropriate and necessary to use the court process then Clare will adopt the same sensible, yet firm approach. She is known amongst her peers as “straight-talking, pragmatic and approachable”. She is consistently recognised as a key lawyer in Legal 500. Also highly ranked in Chambers, she has been praised for giving “robust advice” and for being “very thorough, well-prepared and good with clients”.
Clare is an active member of the legal community. She is a member of Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers committed to conciliatory practice.
Early in her career, she sat on the Kent Resolution committee. She later moved to the South West where she sits on the Bath Resolution committee.
Clare is also a committee member of Bristol Family Law Solutions. This is a selective group of professionals, including lawyers, financial neutrals, couples/family therapists and divorce coaches, all experienced practitioners in their field, who will work as a dedicated team around the separating couple.
