Helen is a Partner in the Private Property and Agriculture team specialising in non-contentious residential, agricultural and rural property law, including sales and purchases, landlord and tenant matters, remortgages, the basic payment scheme and easements.
As a planning lawyer I am involved in both contentious issues (appeal work, judicial reviews) and non-contentious instructions (drafting complex section 106 agreements, advising on permitted development rights, CIL, green belt or heritage issues) and I enjoy this mix of work.

Its impact ranges from head-line grabbing news about IT surveillance by international bodies such as NSA to more mundane concerns such as the security of on-line transactions, employees getting caught making inappropriate comments on Twitter and YouTube and massive IT disputes.
James is a Chartered Legal Executive in the Property Litigation team specialising in enfranchisement claims, business rates disputes, termination of residential tenancies and commercial landlord and tenant disputes including lease renewals (opposed and unopposed) and enforceability of covenants.

The Court of Appeal in KVB Consultants Ltd and others v Jacob Hopkins McKenzie Ltd and others has upheld a High Court decision that principal firms cannot exclude liability for their appointed representatives through drafting contracts which are detached from factual reality.
