Clarke Willmott to host online community safety seminar for housing professionals
To mark next week’s Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week leading national law firm Clarke Willmott is hosting a free webinar for housing professionals.
The interactive “Making Communities Safer” online event takes place on Friday, 4th July and is aimed at people in working in social housing, including housing officers, neighbourhood teams, and tenancy enforcement personnel.
A recent YouGov study commissioned by Resolve reveals that anti-social behaviour remains a persistent and growing problem, underscoring the urgent need for renewed efforts to improve how it is tackled.
“Anti-social behaviour can have a devastating effect on individuals and communities,” says Alex Loxton, senior associate in the housing management team at Clarke Willmott in Birmingham.
“ASB Awareness Week, which runs from 30th June to 6th July, is a key moment to reflect on what more can be done to support victims and make our communities safer.
“Our aim with this webinar is to equip housing professionals with the tools, legal insight and shared knowledge they need to respond quickly and effectively.”
The YouGov data shows that 43 per cent of people have seen a rise in anti-social behaviour in their local area over the past three years, with 16 per cent reporting a significant increase. Around 11 per cent experience ASB on a weekly basis, while 2.5 per cent – equivalent to 1.7 million UK adults – face it daily.
Despite the scale of the problem, just 25 per cent report ASB to police – and over half (57 per cent) don’t report it to any authority at all.
“Clarke Willmott works closely with housing providers across the country, and we see first-hand the pressures they face,” added Emily Hope, senior associate at Clarke Willmott in London.
“We want to help housing professionals feel confident using legal tools to support victims and manage ASB, while exploring how the sector can improve outcomes for communities.”
The webinar will explore four key themes aligned with the #MakeCommunitiesSafer campaign, led by Resolve, the UK’s leading organisation dedicated to tackling ABS and enhancing community safety:
- Ways to ensure victims of ASB receive full support, including practical use of the legal toolkit available to Registered Providers
- Addressing long court delays in some jurisdictions and exploring strategies to minimise these where possible
- Examining Resolve’s proposed national Information Sharing Agreement and its potential impact on Registered Providers
- Enhancing collaboration with victims to make reporting ASB quicker, easier, and more accessible
Matthew Bown, senior associate at Clarke Willmott in Manchester, said: “Whether you’re a housing officer, neighbourhood team member, or tenancy enforcement, the webinar will help boost your confidence in tackling anti-social behaviour.
“Attendees will gain legal insight, policy context, and share knowledge with peers, while contributing to wider conversations on victim support, data-sharing, and reform.”
The Clarke Willmott webinar takes place at 10am on Friday, 4th July. The firm will be sharing a recording and written summary of the session after the event for those unable to attend. To register for the webinar, or receive the recording, please click the link below:
