National law firm Clarke Willmott LLP has assisted ethical bank Triodos Bank UK on its involvement in a £4 million initiative to transform community sports facilities across the country.

The Pitch Together Fund, launched by England Hockey and Sporting Assets in partnership with Sport England, will provide loan finance to develop artificial grass pitches and facilities, improving year-round access to sport.

Triodos Bank UK, a leading impact-focused bank financing positive environmental, social and cultural change, provided a facility to back the scheme, with individual loans to clubs managed by Sporting Assets.

Clarke Willmott advised the bank on the structure and delivery of its lending facility into the fund. The team was led by banking and finance partner Bethan Evans and supported by partner Fraser MacRae, associate Harvinder Kandola and paralegal Ayesha Davies.

“This is a great example of finance being used to deliver genuine community impact,” said Bethan Evans.

“Our work with Triodos on the Pitch Together Fund supports investment in facilities that will make a real difference to sport at a local level and the communities they serve for years to come.”

The scheme is expected to boost grassroots participation, offering clubs loans of around £150,000 alongside support with business planning and long-term sustainability.

It also includes grant funding to assist with the recycling of old pitches, supporting the scheme’s wider environmental objectives.

England Hockey and Sport England have both welcomed the initiative for its role in strengthening participation, inclusion and long-term investment in sport.
