A new organisation – Bristol Family Law Solutions (BFLS) – was officially launched at a well-attended event held at Clarke Willmott’s Bristol office during Family Mediation Week.

Bristol Family Law Solutions is a group of professionals committed to helping couples and families resolve matters in a constructive way, outside of court.  The group, made up of solicitors, mediators, financial neutrals, pension specialists, therapists and divorce coaches, have joined together to help people navigate a relationship breakdown.

The launch was attended by not only the family law community but also other professionals from multiple fields in the South West, reflecting the strong regional support for collaborative, constructive approaches to resolving family disputes.

Barrister and Arbitrator Nicola Frost MCIArb opened the event and provided an introduction to the aims of Bristol Family Law Solutions and the role it plays in encouraging alternative dispute resolution within family law.

Attendees also heard from HHJ Stephanie Cope, the Designated Family Judge for Avon and Gloucester, who delivered a short address highlighting the value of collaborative working and mediation within the family justice system.

Clare Webb, a partner in the Clarke Willmott family team and head of Clarke Willmott’s Bristol office, sits on the Bristol Family Law Solutions committee. She said: “It was fantastic to see such strong engagement from the South West professional community at our launch .

“Events like this underline the shared commitment across all complimentary professions to helping families resolve issues in a constructive, respectful way.

“We recognise that relationship breakdown is complex and difficult, and that access to a full team of expert advisors in legal, financial and emotional areas is essential to assist and support people through the process of separation and divorce.

“Launching the committee during Family Mediation Week felt particularly fitting, and I’m proud to be part of a group that champions collaboration and better outcomes for families at what can be a very challenging time.”

Coronation Street storyline – controlling and coercive behaviour

Controlling and coercive behaviour is subtle and occurs over a prolonged period of time. In the majority of cases the behaviour has slowly escalated over a long period of time to the extent the sufferer is genuinely unaware of what is happening as it becomes a normal part of the relationship.
