David Stedman is an associate. He advises in a range of disputes including professional negligence, breach of contract, partnership disputes, misrepresentation and breach of confidence.

David has particular experience in the ‘classic car’ sector, acting for leading auction houses, high profile individuals, leading restorers and collectors. Such disputes commonly involve allegations of negligence, misrepresentation and breach of contract. They also require him to advise in relation to bailment.

David joined Clarke Willmott in 2014 after working in a niche litigation firm based in the South West with a strong reputation for acting in classic car disputes. At Cardiff University, David obtained a Bachelors degree in Law and Masters degree in Commercial Law.

David has rights of audience in the Higher Courts of England and Wales and is able to appear before all levels of the court system when required.

Experience

  • Acting on a £64,000,000 claim for breach of contract in respect of a software development and licensing agreement.
  • Acting on a claim for breach of confidence and contract against a now defunct national tabloid. The claim concluded with a favourable settlement at mediation.
  • Acting for a former formula one racing driver in a claim for negligent damage to a classic Porsche racing car caused by a motoring journalist during a test drive. This case was widely reported in national broadsheets and is expected to have a large impact upon the motor-journalistic trade.
  • Acting for a leading classic car auction house in the Court of Appeal in a claim relating to the enforceability of its standard terms and conditions. Having already been successful in the lower courts, the issue was favourably settled during the Court of Appeal hearing following negotiations.
