A solicitor gives legal advice to a smiling young couple

Wealth, Health and Inheritance Briefing – September 2014

We are pleased to present the September edition of our Wealth, Health & Inheritance Briefing.

Next week we see a change in the intestacy rules. For those families who are forced to rely on them, the simplification in the rules and the review provisions for the statutory legacy to keep pace with inflation will be welcome. Bringing trustee powers up to date with modern will drafting is also a positive change.

In this edition we also take a look at three specialist aspects of IHT: the acceptance in lieu scheme, whether the disposition of pension entitlements is transfer of value for IHT purposes and whether there may be future changes to IHT reliefs.

Finally we are focussing on elderly care law; funding care home fees and how the Court of Protection will intervene to prevent attorneys from abusing their gift giving powers.
