This is a fee earning position, supporting one of our partners in the employment team.
Hours: Full time
Vacancy Reference: 282-PMR
Supporting the Manchester employment team, this is an opportunity to build your employment law experience assisting Emma Hamnett, (partner) in her day to day work.
You will work on a range of contentious and non-contentious work for both commercial/corporate clients, as well as (generally senior) individuals. This will include assisting our corporate clients with drafting contracts, employee handbooks, and preparing and finalising settlement agreements.
You will be involved in preparing for Employment Tribunal cases (e.g. unfair dismissal and discrimination claims), collating document bundles, drafting witness statements and liaising with counsel and clients, as appropriate. It will also include supporting HR managers in dealing with day to day HR issues (from recruitment through to termination – and every issue in between). There is also the opportunity to be involved in some High Court employment litigation from time to time.
Although this role is primarily a fee-earning role, there may also be an administrative aspect to the role such as opening flies, assisting with compliance, billing and submitting expenses. Some of these tasks may also include assisting with business development activities including pitches, proposals, tenders, preparing and collating all materials for seminars.
You will be a law or GDL graduate with a keen interest in progressing a career in employment law or HR practice. Ideally you will have also completed the LPC and have some employment law or litigation experience but this is not essential.
You will need to be proficient in the use of document management systems and be confident in the use of electronic filing and document management. Some training will be provided but you will be expected to hit the ground running.
You should be proactive and flexible in working both individually and as part of a team, with minimal supervision, and be able to prioritise a number of different projects effectively.
Communication will be one of your strong points, both written and oral, and you will be passionate about delivering excellent quality service to our clients.
We expect you to be able to use your initiative, and be a forward-planner, anticipating our lawyers’ and clients’ needs in advance wherever possible.
