Companies House recently identified and fixed a security issue with its WebFiling service. Astonishingly, this meant there was a potential that a user could access and change elements of another company’s details without their consent. The service was closed on Friday 13 March 2026 whilst Companies House investigated.

Dates of birth, residential addresses, and company email addresses were at risk of being visible. However, Companies House has assured that passwords were not compromised, no data used for identification purposes could be accessed, and no existing documents could be altered.

This has come at a particularly bad time with the recent role out of its ID verification.

Every registered email address, a recently introduced feature, should have received correspondence about the issue. However, if you have particular concerns you should contact enquiries@companieshouse.gov.uk using ‘WebFiling issue’ in the subject heading and include your evidence. For more details, check the official Gov.UK update here.

If you have questions about this or need advice, feel free to get in touch with the Clarke Willmott team. Again, please make sure that if you are a director or a PSC, your ID has been verified at Companies House. If you need further guidance, please let us know.

We are asking all companies to check their registered details and filing history to make sure everything appears correct.
