Ruth Metelerkamp

Ruth assists Court of Protection deputies with making deputyship applications and with the day to day management of property and financial affairs for vulnerable adults.

Ruth joined joined Clarke Willmott in 2020 as a paralegal in the Court of Protection Finance Team.

Ruth has extensive experience of working with vulnerable adults, with a background in the Advice sector and a focus on welfare benefits.

Ruth’s specialist knowledge in welfare benefits is used to assist clients with complex benefits issues. She has also developed a good working knowledge of funding arrangements for clients with care needs (s117, CHC, Local Authority funding) and of adult social care processes.

Other qualifications:

Ruth holds a Master’s Degree in Law (MA) with Merit from the University of Bristol and a Bachelors degree in Philosophy with Upper Second Class Honours (BA) in Philosophy from Queen’s University Belfast.

Charity work:

Previous experience as an Advice Team volunteer at Bristol Refugee Rights.

Experience

On a day to day basis, Ruth assists Court of Protection professional deputies by:

  • Managing and reconciling clients accounts to ensure their finances are managed appropriately;
  • Liaising with financial institutions and benefits agencies;
  • Reviewing benefits entitlements and care fees funding arrangements;
  • Ensuring clients’ funds are spent in their best interests with support from care staff and family members.
