On Sunday 11 June Clarke Willmott was proud to sponsor and take part in the Dragon Boat Race 2017, raising funds for Headway Somerset. The annual event, which sees local teams and businesses frantically paddling along the River Tone against the clock, is a major fundraising event for the charity, which provides social and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with brain injury and support and respite for their families through three Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centres based in Bridgwater, Henton and Yeovil.
The Clarke Willmott team turned up “in force” to defend the trophy for “Best Fancy Dress”. This year’s theme of “Star Oars” saw our own Darth Vader leading 16 Stormtroopers to take the trophy once again.
But our Taunton office has more to celebrate than being the best dressed; for the first time in three years the team crossed the finish line in under a minute and escaped the clutches of the “wooden paddle”, which has plagued our trophy cabinet for the last two years, coming in a very respectable 8th out of 10.
This was also the first year that we held a bake sale at the Clarke Willmott tent, raising more money for Headway Somerset on the day. Thanks to kind donations from our team and supporters, chocolate brownies, doughnuts, biscuits, scones, flapjack and much more were gobbled up by hungry rowers and spectators throughout the day.
Thanks to the revived vigour from Sunday’s achievements our Taunton office is already jousting with ideas for next year’s fancy dress theme and perhaps we could expect a podium finish?
If you wish to support Headway Somerset there is still time to sponsor our team, with sponsorship money due in by 30 June. If you feel able to donate, please visit our JustGiving page here.
Everyone at Clarke Willmott would like to say well done and thank you to the organisers, the teams and supporters taking part in the event, and, of course, our sponsors.
