New figures show increasing numbers of diabetes related amputations are being performed.
Diabetes UK have today published figures which confirm that diabetes related amputations in the UK have reached an all time high.
The data used to calculate the figures was originally produced by Public Health England. It shows that 135 diabetes related amputations now take place in the UK every week. This equates to 7 more amputations each week compared to previous figures.
Diabetes UK state that with good diabetes and foot care up to 80% of these amputations are preventable.
To highlight these figures and raise awareness, Diabetes UK is today displaying 135 pairs of shoes donated by people who have undergone amputations, supporters and celebrities.
