Laura is a Senior Associate in the Financial Services Litigation team specialising in claims and complaints relating to financial products and planning. Her expertise includes managing claims and complaints regarding negligent advice given in respect of investments, pensions and tax mitigation schemes, primarily for claimants. Laura is a member of the Personal Finance Society and Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. At the present time, she is managing several cases which relate to recommendations given to high net worth individuals to invest in film partnerships, and others concerning the alleged mis-selling of the AIG Premier Access Bond. Laura joined Clarke Willmott in 2009 after studying at the University of the West of England.
- Mis-sold investments – Laura is currently handling numerous claims relating to the AIG Premier Access Bond. A number of such cases have been successfully concluded, including Rubenstein v HSBC in the Court of Appeal. Laura was part of the team which acted for Mr Rubenstein and attended the appeal.
- Tax Avoidance – Laura is currently acting for an investor who was encouraged to participate in an environmental tax avoidance scheme; many such schemes have come to light recently and will continue to do so. Laura arranged a successful tax avoidance seminar in Bristol on the topic with the focus on film partnerships, and is currently organising another to take place in London.
- Pensions related complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service – Laura advised a client who had been advised to invest a large proportion of his limited pension fund in an unsuitable commercial property Unregulated Collective Investment Scheme. The complaint was upheld.
