Jan heads up our Knowledge Services support department, which is made up of both information professionals and professional support lawyers. Her team is responsible for providing appropriate information resources to the firm, including external legal and business information databases and search systems and for maintaining and updating Clarke Willmott’s internal legal knowledge and precedent bank (IKnow) and the firm’s intranet. She also manages the provision of information to clients via extranets.
In her best practice role Jan is responsible for setting quality and system service standards for the firm. She is heavily involved in drafting, maintaining and overseeing Clarke Willmott’s internal practice standards, and also involved in a number of workflow automation projects in the firm. Jan works closely with the fee-earners to identify and implement changes which will make their lives easier.
Jan started her career at Osborne Clarke, where she worked as a corporate lawyer for eight years. In the late 1990s she became their first Director of Training and Know-how, where she was instrumental in setting up their knowledge systems and was responsible for providing skills, IT and legal training to the firm. She then worked as in-house counsel for a group of privately owned companies offering legal, accountancy and publishing services. In this role she had commercial responsibility for the provision of corporate legal services to clients, and audit and compliance responsibilities for the group and its offshore offices. Jan joined Clarke Willmott in 2009.
