James Marshall is a Solicitor Advocate in Clarke Willmott’s Bristol commercial litigation team, who advises in a range of commercial disputes including solicitor and surveyor professional negligence, breach of contract claims, fraud and intellectual property disputes.
James has worked for a wide-range of clients including banks, ATE insurers, multi-national companies, recruitment agencies and individuals. He has particular expertise in acting for recruitment agencies as both claimant and defendant.
James joined Clarke Willmott in 2013 as a paralegal and trained with the firm before qualifying in 2016. Previously, he completed an undergraduate degree in History at the University of Manchester and then attended the University of Law where he obtained his GDL and LPC.
He has taken on a number of responsibilities since joining the firm and currently chairs the Bristol office’s social committee. He also volunteers at a local school under the Reading Buddies programme.
As part of his training, James obtained his Higher Rights of Audience and, as a Solicitor Advocate, is able to appear before all levels of the court system when required.
Outside of work, he is a keen rugby player and plays regularly for a local club.
- Acting for a bank in an 8-day High Court trial against a firm of project monitoring surveyors in a successful professional negligence claim.
- Acting for a large, national ATE insurer across a range of matters regarding the interpretation of its policy.
- Acting for an international IT recruitment agency, advising on a number of matters relating to the recovery of referral fees.
- Acting for an international producer of yoga related goods on intellectual property matters.
