Most of our people choose to work in a hybrid fashion, working from home and attending our offices on occasion. Our offices are in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton.
Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:
Our highly regarded Debt Recovery team is based only in our Taunton office, but it provides a national service for Government Departments, Local Authorities, insurance companies, managing agents, businesses and individuals. With over 35 people, the team specialises in all aspects of debt recovery from debts paid before court proceedings are begun through to court judgments, insolvency and enforcement proceedings.
We are looking to appoint someone, who ideally has previous debt recovery experience but if not, on the job training will be provided. The role will be varied. In the majority, you will be dealing with one of our major insurance clients, primarily on the telephone, issuing court proceedings, taking enforcement action and maintaining repayment plans using our specific case management system. You will also deal with other clients of the team when needed.
You will be responsible for maintaining a caseload, prioritising tasks, developing and maintaining client relationships and undertaking general administrative tasks.
You will gain a good grounding in most aspects of debt recovery and it is an excellent place to start a legal career and gain experience working in a legal environment.
It is a fast-paced role and you will need to juggle many priorities. You will need to be flexible to be an effective team player but you will also get support and training from your colleagues and manager in a relaxed but professional and hard-working team.

Whatever your background, you will have strong written and verbal communication skills, a good level of basic numeracy and plenty of common sense.
- Have gained at least 6 months’ experience in an office environment
- Have used case management systems or databases in the past
- Have a Law degree or Common Professional Examination/Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE/GDL)
- Have litigation experience, preferably in the insurance industry
- Have debt recovery experience
Have an understanding of the Road Traffic Act
