An exciting opportunity for a law graduate who is looking to advance a career within our Housing Management team. The role will be dealing with a varied caseload, and providing proactive and professional support to fee-earners in the team.
Role: Paralegal (Housing Management)
Hours: Full time
Vacancy Reference: 387-PMR
Housing Management is a busy litigation team, with lawyers based in Manchester, London and Southampton. We act for a large number of Registered Providers of Social Housing on all aspects of their housing functions including possession actions, antisocial behaviour, leasehold queries and policy and procedure work.
You will help the team to work as efficiently as possible by providing support in a range of areas, gaining experience and understanding of client work, whilst developing your skills as a lawyer.
Working under supervision and guidance, you will take responsibility for progressing cases and undertaking tasks such as:
- Assisting in considering client instructions and drafting initial advice out;
- Assisting in drafting pleadings and witness statements in support of applications brought in the County Court and First Tier Tribunal;
- Liaising with the County Court and the First Tier Tribunal on behalf of clients;
- Liaising with and, when required, instructing counsel to attend hearings in the County Court and the First Tier Tribunal, and attending court and the Tribunal to support counsel where appropriate.
You will also undertake legal research on behalf of colleagues who advise public and private landlords on non-contentious housing management issues.
You will soon become an integral part of this highly regarded team, playing a key part in delivering an excellent level of service to our clients and building your legal career in this interesting and fast-paced area of law.
It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.
You will be a law/GDL graduate or equivalent with a keen interest in law. Additionally, if you have already completed the LPC this will be of great benefit, but is not essential.
Previous paralegal experience would be desirable, but what is most important is your attitude, so you will need to show us that you are hard-working, with initiative, drive and great organisational skills. On-the-job training and guidance will be provided to enable you to succeed in this role.
You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, being able to adapt your style to communicate effectively with a wide range of professional people and other stakeholders. You will have good numeracy skills and be competent in using Microsoft Excel.
This is a busy role, with deadlines to manage and competing priorities, so you will be required to work quickly, accurately and efficiently and remain calm under pressure. We expect you to be someone who takes pride in your work and who will provide a first class support service to your colleagues and our clients, anticipating their needs in advance wherever possible, and paying meticulous attention to detail in all of your work.
You will relish helping others and be eager to learn.
