Key Client Relationship Manager – Business Development & Marketing – Firm Wide
We have an exciting opportunity for a Key Client Relationship Manager to join our Business Development & Marketing team working across our Property teams (including Planning, Construction, Property Litigation and Commercial Property) and market facing sectors such as Real Estate, Retail, House Builder, Banking and Energy Infrastructure.
You will support key property led sectors at Clarke Willmott and you will work closely with the Real Estate Managing Directors, Sector Heads, Head of BD and BD Managers to support the growth of relationships with key clients. Our key clients operate in a number of sectors including Retail, Banking, Housebuilding, Real Estate Investment & Development and Energy/Infrastructure. The property teams and sectors have grown successfully and there is an opportunity to develop relationships via these specialisms even more successfully. The immediate opportunity is to broaden relationships with clients across a wider range of the Clarke Willmott areas of expertise.
Our national property team is one of the largest of its kind in the UK. We have more than 100 lawyers specialising in all aspects of commercial property, including asset management, construction and procurement, development (including complex landlord and tenant, acquisition and disposal issues), regeneration, property litigation, planning, environment and real estate tax. Our property focused BD and Marketing activity takes place through our market facing sectors which include Real Estate Investor and Developer, Housebuilder, Social Housing, Retail and Banking and Finance.

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:
You will be responsible for working closely with clients to understand their business, their needs and to develop supportive plans and initiatives that grow and enhance the relationships. This is a varied and engaging role; this is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and hard-working person to work with an equally ambitious team of lawyers.
The role will require you to take the lead and work closely with fee earners as well as colleagues in Marketing & BD to develop and implement a business growth plan. A key part of the role will be the internal coordination of Clarke Willmott stakeholders who engage with our clients, it is essential that we present a “one Clarke Willmott” brand, proposition and service to our key clients.
You will take ownership of:
- Key client engagement and feedback;
- The CW Key Client Relationship plan – this requires development from the ground up;
- The rolling 12 month relationship development plans;
- Working with BDM colleagues you will develop the CW property propositions – ensuring that the proposition (price, service offering, support etc.) remains ahead of the competition;
- Sales/fee income growth targets – Existing key clients – oversee management of detailed relationship plans with existing key clients. This requires active, ‘hands-on’ coordination of fee earner activity including arranging/coordinating client meetings, preparation of materials for meetings and follow up.
- You will develop plans to enhance key client relationships. You will work with colleagues in BD&M and Knowledge (and broader support teams e.g. IT where appropriate) to implement agreed relationship development plans. These plans might include;
- Service standards – setting and performance review;
- Knowledge sharing;
- Service enhancements supported by IT and Knowledge systems;
- Events, seminars, hospitality;
- Communication an digital marketing support;
- Coordination of internal relationship development meetings as well as producing management information and reports.
It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.

You will come from a professional services background and you will have a proven track record in supporting growth of B2B client relationships. You will have experience in a relevant sector. It would be desirable if you had some understanding of law firms and how they service clients.
Ideally you will have your own client and intermediary contacts that could form the basis of a new client ‘pool’ for Clarke Willmott.
You will demonstrate strong communication and consultative collaboration skills and be familiar with working with senior business partners to deliver plans.
A ‘hands on’ approach to relationship management will be expected. You will be happy to work on your own initiative, comfortable developing personal relationships and adept at opening doors with both new and existing clients.
A positive and tenacious attitude is essential.
