Admin Assistant – Debt Recovery – Taunton
An opportunity to join a team of nearly 40 in a national law firm. Based in our Debt Recovery Team dealing with all aspects of administration for the whole team and assisting our departmental IT team.

Our highly regarded Debt Recovery team is based only in our Taunton office, but it provides a national service for Government Departments, Local Authorities, insurance companies, managing agents, businesses and individuals. The team specialises in all aspects of debt recovery from debts paid before court proceedings are begun through to court judgments, insolvency and enforcement proceedings.
We deal with thousands of debtors and use an advanced case management system (CMS) to share out the work and progress cases efficiently and effectively.
The successful candidate’s primary work will be to help the team with processing volume tasks, assisting our clients and third parties with account access queries and undertaking administration tasks that are key to the successful running of the team.
On a day to day basis, your role will involve:
- Day to day running of volume processes including: – loading new cases & transaction reports, uploading case updates.
- Tidying information provided by clients in excel spreadsheets so it can be loaded onto our CMS
- Assisting clients and third parties on our extranet including resetting accounts, creating new accounts and helping users who are having difficulties
- Assisting with compliance administration tasks such as mailbox retention management.
- Learning and applying basic case management skills such as precedent amendment.
- Carrying out daily key administration tasks such as scanning incoming post and attaching to our CMS and outbound post folding.
- Carrying out ad hoc administration tasks such as archiving and photocopying.
- Assisting the departmental IT team with ad hoc basic IT tasks.
It is a fast-paced role and you will need to juggle many priorities. You will need to be flexible to be an effective team player but you will also get support and training from your colleagues and manager in a relaxed but professional and hard-working team. It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.
You will be IT literate, eager to learn, flexible, organised and enthusiastic about meeting business needs. You need to be able to work alone and with others in the team.
You will have strong social skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people.
You use your own initiative and are someone who meets deadlines and is a forward planner.
You must be able to demonstrate intermediate Excel and Word knowledge and experience and must also be able to manage your time to ensure daily tasks are completed and client/3rd party requests for assistance are prioritised.
You will probably be very goal focussed, enjoying the buzz of working in a high-performing team and producing great results for your clients. You will certainly be extremely organised, with excellent time management skills, a keen eye for detail and able to work under pressure.
You may have pursued some further education studies (A levels, BTEC, NVQs etc) having achieved at least 6 or more GCSE passes at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English and Maths. Preferably you will have some experience in an office environment or a role involving the use basic IT skills.
Whatever your background, you will have strong written and verbal communication skills, a good level of basic numeracy and plenty of common sense.
