other complaints proceduresIf you have been into hospital or seen your doctor and something has gone wrong there are ways of resolving complaints without needing to go to Court. For instance, if you have lost a loved one you may wish for advice in relation to the Inquest. At the Inquest the Coroner will consider the cause of death and what happened. It is an opportunity to try and establish how the treatment went wrong. You may have concerns about a particular doctor and wish to make a complaint to the General Medical Council (GMC). The GMC is able to discipline doctors who are incompetent and even strike them off if their conduct is unacceptable. Hospitals and GP surgeries also have internal complaints procedures. Patients used to be able to get assistance from Community Health Councils (CHC’s) but now their role has been taken over by the Patient Advice and Liaision Service (PALS). PALS are often situated in hospitals and aim to resolve complaints within the hospital. We are happy to help you consider any of these routes in the most effective way of dealing with your medical problem.
