Stadia and Development

The concept, planning and delivery of a new or enhanced facility is often a "once in a lifetime" project for our clients.

Advising on the development and operation of sports and leisure venues is a fundamental part of what we do. With substantial experience of providing strategic advice on projects we aim to add value at every stage of the process.

Our role extends through the planning, funding, construction and operational phases of each project. Our experience and excellence in key legal disciplines ensures that the land, local authority, corporate, funding and operational agreements are properly put in place, are commercially sound and tax efficient.

We will introduce sources of finance, commercial partners and find solutions to issues that arise. By using our experience, our clients negotiate and secure terms to their advantage. Our role is to help enable projects to happen. With a proven track record in delivering strategic advice, we enable clients to maximise their return from the opportunities available and deliver to their bottom line.

Our recent development work has included advising on:-

  • the creation, construction and funding of venues for the London 2012 Olympics, 2015 Rugby World Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup
  • international projects, particularly in North America, South America and the Far East
  • development agreements with local authorities, regional development agencies and similar bodies
  • projects for clients including Gloucester RFC, London Wasps RFC, Silverstone, Somerset CCC, Gloucestershire CCC, Bristol City FC, Swindon Town FC, Clydesdale Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland
  • ground share arrangements within football, rugby, rugby league and cricket
  • the structure and exploitation of commercial rights, including naming rights, premium seats, perimeter, concourse, merchandising, online sales, catering and pouring rights
  • security, stewarding, ticketing, ground entry, box holders, sponsorship, broadcasting and internet agreements
  • protection and enforcement of rights
