Planning and the Environment

Our Planning and Environmental team has a national reputation. Clients turn to us for advice on and guidance through the intricacies of the planning system and increasingly complex environmental controls. Our work covers contentious and non-contentious planning and environmental law issues, covering pollution prevention and control, waste materials, residential and commercial development (including wind farm developments), transportation, contaminated land, nature conservation and cultural heritage, and solar photovoltaic agricultural development.

Construction

Clarke Willmott's construction team is one of the most pre-eminent in the South West of England, comprising four partners and 7 fee-earners. The team includes peer-rated individuals and acts on high value and complex construction projects and disputes across a broad range of industry sectors. We cover every stage of the construction process, from tender and procurement, contract drafting and negotiation through to dispute avoidance and resolution. We work closely with our firm-wide multidisciplinary teams - in particular property, planning, environment and energy - in order to deliver a 'total' solution to our clients.

Agriculture

Our agriculture and estates team provides the broadest range of legal services (both contentious and non-contentious) to the agricultural and rural landowning communities nationally. Whatever the issue within this sector - our multi-disciplinary team is able to draw upon a full complement of legal skills and experience.

Commercial Property

We understand the processes of commercial property management, investment and development, from site assembly through to construction, funding, investment, sale and leasing. Our property, construction and planning teams work together to ensure we add value to our clients' businesses.

We have the size and resources at every level (across the firm we have 114 people in the Real Estate sector) to provide the most appropriate and cost-effective advice and respond swiftly when investment opportunities arise. Above all, we understand that our clients are not looking for more legal advice, but are looking for more business. We see it as our role to help them achieve it.

We regularly liaise with other property based professionals such as quantity surveyors, chartered surveyors, planning authorities, accountants and specialist VAT consultants.

We are familiar with and have the expertise to deal with all property, planning, construction and funding aspects of wind farm and other renewable energy projects.

Corporate and Commercial

Our corporate lawyers have helped enterprises of all sizes, and at all stages of the business lifecycle, to navigate a range of complex legal issues with positive results. In addition to corporate finance advice, we advise on a variety of funding options and work closely with other professional advisers to develop commercial solutions. Above all, we understand that our clients are not just looking for more legal advice, but are looking to develop more business. We see it as our role to help them achieve it.

We undertake a complete range of corporate and commercial transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, disposals and reorganisations, IP/IT issues and director and minority shareholder issues.

We also act for the providers of equity finance as well as the recipient companies in whom they invest, whether by way of equity share capital, preference shares, loan notes or the many hybrid instruments in between.

We are currently acting for a borrower in relation to a project finance transaction involving £180m bank debt for the acquisition and development of transport infrastructure.

Employment

Having one of the largest employment teams in the UK with recognised leaders in labour law, we are employer focused and handle all employment-related issues.

We offer contentious and non-contentious advice as part of an overall HR Support service. We are also able to offer strategic HR guidance.

Our clients are drawn from a wide range of industry sectors in the South, South West and The Midlands. Each member of our team is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and is regularly involved in employment tribunal proceedings. Notably, we act as panel solicitors for the Equal Opportunities Commission.
